Barbara Eden is a beloved actress that is most notable for playing the main character of Jeannie on the hit 1960s sitcom I Dream of Jeannie. Click below to check the trivia question Barbara married her first husband in 1958 and found out that she was pregnant with her first and only child shortly after signing her contract to appear on I Dream of Jeannie. Barbara had feared that she was going to be let go from the show after revealing to the producers that she was pregnant, but they decided that they could just film around her pregnancy for the first several episodes. Although Barbara was certainly glad for the ability to work, she was upset that filming was preventing her from spending time with her newborn son. Barbara’s son was named Matthew, and Barbara tried to spend as much time with him as she could. After I Dream of Jeannie came to an end, Barbara wanted to take a break from acting to spend more time with her son. However, her and her husband’s economic situation prevented this from occurring. The final episode of I Dream of Jeannie aired in 1970, and Barbara found out that she was pregnant again in 1971. Because her first husband couldn’t get much work, Barbara was forced to continue acting during her pregnancy. She acted in some physically demanding stage productions, which caused her second child to be stillborn. After this, she and her first husband’s relationship fell apart. They divorced in 1974 when Matthew was still young. Matthew was greatly affected by his mother’s absence during his early years, as well as his parent’s divorce when he was young. He went on to become a lifelong heroin addict that suffered through numerous periods of addiction and recovery before eventually dying of a drug overdose in 2001.
