𝗪𝗘 𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗠 𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗘𝗡𝗗 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗩𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗢. The first tram route in Bradford, running from Rawson Square to Lister Park Gates, was opened on January 31, 1882. It was leased to the Bradford Tramways Company, later known as the Bradford Tramways & Omnibus Company Limited (BT&OC). The route initially used six horse-drawn open-top double-deck tramcars, each seating 38 passengers, which were manufactured by Ashbury of Manchester. On August 8, 1882, a line was extended along Leeds Road to Stanningley, and steam traction was employed due to the steep gradients. Over time, additional lines were opened, including ones to Tong Cemetery, Allerton via Four Lane Ends, and an extension of the horse line from Manningham to Undercliffe. In 1884, a new line from the Town Hall Square to Shelf was constructed, and the Bradford & Shelf Tramways Company (B&STC) was granted a lease that expired on January 31, 1903, the same day as the BT&OC. At Four Lane Ends, Allerton on the Bradford Tramways & Omnibus Co's system, a tragic incident took place on December 4, 1889. According to The Yorkshire Post, one person lost their life and several others were injured. The car had become detached from the engine while traveling from Bradford to Allerton, causing it to roll back down an incline. Upon reaching a curve, the car derailed and toppled onto its side. Out of the nine people inside, some managed to escape unharmed or with minor injuries. Unfortunately, one man was killed, and four others sustained serious injuries. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 🔔 PLEASE SUBSCRIBE: https://bit.ly/3wNku2F ► SOCIAL MEDIA • Instagram ➭ / bradford_throughthelens • Website ➭ https://www.bradfordthroughthelens.com • TikTok ➭ https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMRYD1ajM/ • Facebook ➭ / bradfordthroughthelens • Twitter ➭ / bradfordlens ► Like our Facebook Group! / bradfordthroughthelens ►CREDIT: Subscribe Button by MrNumber112 • Free Download: Subscribe Button #2 + ...
