Hawk Used to Scare Seagulls in Nanaimo

http://www.ctvvancouverisland.ca   / ctvvi   NANAIMO - Birds in Nanaimo may want to think twice before perching on downtown buildings, particularly the city's conference centre. Since the building opened its doors falling fecal matter has been an issue. The centre spends roughly ten thousand dollars annually to clean up the mess which has begun to work its way into the centre's heating system causing major health concerns. It has forced the centre to look for more eco-friendly, financially smarter ideas. A hawk raptor from Duncan has been brought in to act as a type of "bird bully" in the hopes of clearing the sky, especially atop the conference centre. The hawk will continue to fly above the building periodically for the summer. If the tryout works and the birds disappear the raptor may be brought in on a permanent basis.
