Teaching Dogs to Hunt an Area: The Hunt Command | S3 Ep: #24

Teaching dogs to hunt an area becomes very useful in the field, and in training. We start this when they are very young puppies by throwing kibble into grass and echoing "find it" as they use their nose to search out and find the kibble. This then graduates into bigger scale with tennis balls, as you will see in this video. The hunt command is teaching a dog that when they hear the command, they are close and should hunt that area. This drill not only builds a dogs nose and the understanding to use it, but also builds trust in us the handler to stick with it and teaching dogs to hunt an area, even if the dog doesn't think there is something to find there. Over the past several years we have been documenting our Handlers Workshops for a variety of reasons. One of the initial reasons was to use the content as supplementary footage included within our series of Training DVD's. After realizing that we had so much footage that I think is just as valuable as the DVD content itself, we decided that we should put the effort and time into organizing it in a way that we could effectively provide it to you as well.
