After vainly trying to steal it, they carry out a series of odd jobs and finally manage to get enough money together to buy it. Each has a good reason to show off and swagger about, and they take turns wearing their prized possession. Tangled up in complicated relationships with their parents, parents-in-law and grandparents, they try to find an escape to their problems in strutting their stuff. But it's not until Muet is killed by the rejected suitor of his girlfriend that the two surviving friends realize the superficiality of their behavior.
