Rye Level Crossing (Ferry Road Crossing)

On a cold day two Class 171s in Southern livery (one after the other) pass the refurbished crossing on Ferry Road in Rye, heading into the town's station and then onto Appledore. The barriers have been replaced with lovely SPXs, and the alarms have remained inside the barriers as they did in the GWEs before. Probably because the rewiring up to the posts the lights are on would be too costly compared to this arrangement. I was hoping the crossing would have been ripped down to the bone and refurbished from the ground up as was proposed a few years ago, but since the large site north of the station was not turned into a large supermarket, this wasn't really necessary. The footpaths therefore remain the same narrow width they've always done, and the side road that emerges is still in an awkward place. I would propose reversing the one way direction down Cyprus Place but keeping the prohibition of turning right from the crossing, but then again, I am not a traffic planner (yet). So, from the last visit, the lights are still in the same blind setup from one side (apart from one that has been twisted into a more suitable place), and the barriers have been replaced. I reckon the B2089's only level crossing won't get a proper refurbishment until 2030 or so now unless Rye town council, East Sussex Highways or literally anyone call for action improving access and improving safety across this part of town. Stupid narrow footpaths. Type: MCB-CCTV County: East Sussex
