Have you missed our live lectures? We are now publishing selected presentations of #RadarInAction on #Youtube! If you have any questions about the topic, simply asks us in the comments! »Radar in Action« Observing and Supporting De-orbiting Operations with TIRA Space Observation Radar An increasingly dense population of space debris is orbiting the Earth posing a significant risk to active satellites and the multitude of applications that depend upon them. The Tracking and Imaging Radar (TIRA) is a unique system offering the capability to determine satellite and debris orbits with high precision and produce high-resolution images thereof. The radar data are used to obtain precise orbital elements, attitude motion parameters, and other important satellite properties. Speaker: Dr. Vassilis Karamanavis Themes: Here, the TIRA system will be discussed with an emphasis on recent contributions of TIRA in the field of deorbiting, along with showing and discussing cases of objects that re-entered in a controlled fashion or naturally. Furthermore, we will direct our attention to the evaluation of the status and performance of deorbiting devices (e.g. drag sails) in the context of active debris removal (ADR) operations. Finally, the potential contribution of TIRA in upcoming ADR test missions and in-orbit servicing will be discussed. Contact and more info: https://www.fhr.fraunhofer.de/en/even... What is »Radar in Action«? By presenting our research results, we want to show what is possible with radar and how you can use the possibilities. Unfortunately, this is hardly possible in person at the moment, so in 2020 we launched the public online lecture series "Radar in Action". The lectures are aimed at customers, partners and interested parties from industry, politics, science and society. Since the launch in 2020, there have been 33 events with an average of about 100 participants, totaling over 1500 people, many of whom attended multiple times. Over 93% rated the presentations as very good or good. The events are always held on Tuesdays from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm. They include live presentations on a radar application - some including live demonstrations using experimental systems, as well as opportunities for questions and exchanges. Visit https://www.fhr.fraunhofer.de/radar-i... for more topics and dates of our online live events. The registration is free of charge.
