Their enormous size quickly conjures up images of superhuman strength and formidable abilities, yet in many legends, the giant is a tragic figure who often dies in an improbable manner. Some of these are referred to as Nephilim (first referenced in Genesis 7:23), a word that is sometimes translated as giant, though this translation is not universally accepted.
