The Balcony House

Video #2 of 2 (9/2/2024): The Balcony House! It is another feature found at Mesa Verde National Park! All of what you see were mostly built by the Ancient Pueblo people for the most part. Of course, there were some alterations made back in the early 20th century to add some preservation. Ranger Tony takes a moment to explain that in this short film. The Pueblo knew the concept of mortar for which they would mix the sandy soils together for the architecture. According to archeologists, there are up to 38 rooms and two separate kivas as seen in the film. The balcony house gets its name from the fact that some houses had a balcony on the second floor in case if they needed to move between separate rooms.
