Granada is the capital of the homonymous province, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. After the capture of the city by the Catholic Monarchs, it remained the capital of the Castilian kingdom of Granada, which was already a simple territorial jurisdiction and which was maintained until 1833, when a new provincial division was produced in Spain, which is still in force. Its municipal coat of arms bears the titles of “Very noble, loyal, named great, famous and heroic city of Granada”.
