Ethan Wagner founded 50/50 with the goal of finding a better, fairer, and more effective way of using microfinance to help people improve their lives. In December 2012, he will complete his graduate degree at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, where he serves as co-president of the Microfinance Working Group. Previously, he studied business at University of Virginia and attended the American University of Beirut, and has also worked as managing director of a media and communications company in Africa. This talk was given at TEDxColumbiaCollege in November of 2012 at Columbia University in New York City. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
