UPDATE 4/25, 11am ET: I checked the R-18 tag on Pixiv this morning while my region was set to the United States, and R-18 material was still viewable. So it DOES appear that this is just a posting ban on lewd material in the US/UK, and NOT a viewing ban after all. Pixiv has banned noncon, dubcon, lewd, and "obscene" content from being posted in the U.S. and U.K. This likely means Americans and Brits cannot view NSFW material on Pixiv, either. Alongside the R-18 ban, Pixiv specifically states these prohibited actions are in conjunction with meeting local laws and regulations. Not a promising sign as American states clamp down on NSFW sites via its ID laws. As I mention in the video, it's possible that Pixiv's U.S. and U.K. users will still be able to view NSFW material from the U.S. / U.K. regions after the 25th. I do not believe this is likely, even though Pixiv's language mentions nothing about U.S. / U.K. residents banned from viewing 18+. material (simply that U.S. / U.K. users cannot "post" material). Pixiv makes it clear that additional prohibited actions may not be listed, and besides, why would posting be banned but viewing allowed? Nonetheless, I will update the description of this video if this changes and pin an update in the comments if I am proved incorrect. Meanwhile, DLSite continues to suffer from credit card woes with MasterCard, Visa, and American Express. The site can't catch a break. PayPal remains the best payment option for Westerners using DLSite, and still, I'm very concerned PayPal will eventually pull out of the site as well. Either way, we're moving toward an internet increasingly controlled by payment processors, one that could lead to censorship of LGBTQ speech and queer adult content.
