The Old San Antonio Road, which is a section of El Camino Real de los Tejas, runs through the area. Crockett was founded in 1837 making it one of the oldest towns in Texas. Houston County was the first county established during the Republic of Texas. Do not confuse Houston County, Texas with the City of Houston, which is located 100 miles to the south in Harris County, Texas.
