One common style of pickup uses something called a piezo in it. I began to do some research and realized that there were piezos all around me, all I had to do was figure out the easiest place to find them and how to wire them up to act as a surface mount microphone. *This is all just my experimentation, so I take no responsibility for damages to any instruments, burnt fingers, electrocution, or any other possible things that could happen because of doing this project.
