On June 17, 2023 Lama Choedak Rinpoche gave an explanation and lung for “Cloud Banks of Everything One Desires: sadhana of Yellow Vasudhara" hosted and translated by Sakya Friends with live-stream into 11 languages. Donation details: For Lama Choedak Rinpoche PayPal is: [email protected]. For Sakya Friends PayPal is: [email protected]. About Vasudhara practice: Vasudhara is known as the goddess or female Buddha of prosperity who bestows “the siddhis of inexhaustible wealth (supreme and ordinary) in conformity with Dharma”. When doing the practice of Vasudhara we strive to “liberate ourselves and all sentient beings from temporary and ultimate distress, and to bring them to a state of inexhaustible wealth (and endowments) of well-being and happiness”. The origins of the practice of Vasudhara can be found in the Mahayana Sutras. Vasudhara Dharani and its practices are also mentioned in Vajrapanjara Tantra, which is a commentarial Tantra of Hevajra. The author of "Cloudbanks of All One Desires: A Sadhana of Yellow Vasudhara" is Gagana Shribhadra, whose Tibetan name is Namkha Palzang (1611-1672). He was the 23rd abbot of Ngor Monastery. The tradition of practising Vasudhara as a female Buddha, called the goddess of wealth and prosperity was already widely promoted by Ngorchen Kunga Zangpo (1382–1456), one of the most prolific and influential masters in the Sakya school and the founder of Ngor Monastery. He also wrote a lengthy “Praise to the Seventeen Deity Mandala of Vasudhara” from which the “Prayer for the Happiness For All Sentient Beings” is extracted. SAMAYA/COMMITMENT of the empowerment: Receiving Vasudhara empowerment doesn't require a daily sadhana practice (although everyone interested may practice the sadhana or mantra). Main commitment is directing one's mind towards the Buddhist Refuge, bodhichitta, and recollecting emptiness, practicing six paramitas (especially the first paramita of generosity) and Buddhist vows. Receiving this empowerment will boost our Buddhist practice. NEXT SAKYA FRIENDS TRANSLATIONS: On June 25 (Sunday): H.H. the 41st Sakya Trichen while visiting the USA will bestow the bodhisattva vows. Time: 11 am New York, 17:00 CEST, 8:45 pm Nepal, 12 pm Brasilia, 22:00 Vietnam, 18:00 Moscow. Event will be streamed and translated in the same Sakya Friends Zoom into Spanish, Portuguese, French, Russian, Vietnamese, Mongolian, Cantonese, Nepali (other languages may be added in further updates on Sakya Friends Facebook). The June 25 event is hosted by Minnesota Sakya center.
