Like and Subscribe! First structures were built in 1797 by the Native American Cherokee and later inhabited by settlers in the 1800's. They lived there until 1927, when the government forced them from their land. The last resident abandoned his claim in 1937. Some opposed the government and remained in Cades Cove until the 1960's. A part of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, many do not realize the residents of Cades Cove were forced to abandon their homes by the Parks Commission. Many residents abandoned their homes right away, while others tried to fight. Today the abandoned homes are maintained by the Parks Commission and many tourists visit Cades Cove annually making it one of the most beautiful abandoned places.
