They are told to enjoy the garden, but there's one important rule: they must not eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, which stands in the middle of the garden. God warns them that eating from this tree will lead to their death. However, a serpent, often seen as the Devil, approaches Eve and tempts her by questioning God's command. The serpent claims that eating the fruit will open her eyes and make her like God, knowing good and evil. Convincing her with these words, Eve takes the fruit and eats it, then shares it with Adam, who also eats. This act of disobedience is commonly referred to as "eating the apple," even though the Bible doesn't specify what kind of fruit it was. After they eat, Adam and Eve's eyes are opened, and they realize they are naked, feeling vulnerable and ashamed. They cover themselves with fig leaves and try to hide from God. When God finds them, they start blaming each other and the serpent for what they did. Because of their disobedience, God punishes them by sending them out of the Garden of Eden. Adam is doomed to a life of hard work to grow food, while Eve faces pain in childbirth and a subordinate role to her husband. The serpent is cursed to crawl on its belly and become an enemy to humanity. This event, known as the Fall of Man, signifies the entry of sin and death into the world, according to Christian beliefs. It's viewed as the reason for humanity's separation from God and the need for redemption, which Christians believe was achieved through Jesus Christ's life and sacrifice.
