They seek refuge from the violent massacres and abductions carried out by the LRA. For Thomas, escape has come at a high price. He peels back bandages to reveal his amputated lips. The army has already abducted over 8,000 children who are brainwashed into becoming killers themselves. "Sometimes I dream about the three people I killed," sighs one abductee. Uganda's lack of valuable oil or mineral resources means that it is left at the back of the queue for international aid. And the question of how to deal with a child army remains unanswered.
