An ATLAS Classe A traction elevator, from the late 1980s, in a small apartment building where a friend of mine lives. This is the first of these smaller, residential-type, 1st generation installations that I find. Like in most apartment buildings, there are 2 identical elevators, one for passengers only, and one for service uses as well as passengers. This video shows only the passenger car. Service: • EPIC ATLAS Classe A/2000 Traction Ele... It's a very simple and small elevator. Likely the "Atlas 2000" that they had as an economy, simpler model intended for smaller buildings like this one. It's small, but doesn't feel too tiny. Perfect size for a smaller one. Amazing how it's extremely well preserved, the interior and exterior are looking as if they're barely a few years old. Plain beige walls, no additional details, only a mirror in the back, and a decorative ceiling panel with those circles in the middle portion, which I really like. Landing doors are the usual basic Atlas ones from the 80s, with a small window near the handle and the round number plaques on their inside. The contacts on this one have been recently replaced with newer TV-4 ones from Atlas Schindler, they're replacing all of these in older Atlas installs with this new one. Fixtures are the 1st genration of the Classe A line, all electromechanical. In great shape too, just like the rest of the elevator, not a single damaged, worn or failing part. Small COP with only basic controls, and tiny call stations on the outside, except for the ones on T with indicators. As this is a later 80s one, it looks more like the succeeding 2nd generation of the Classe A, of the early 90s, rather than the first versions of it in the 80s. No internal indicators, typical of the manufacturers at the time as those were made optional. Weirdly, even though they're all the exact same button, only the ones in the call stations light up, those in the internal COP don't. Confused me all the time because I'm used to these lighting up, so I kept pressing them again, as if they were not registering a call. They really are like that by default in these installations, likely to cut costs. Indicator on the call station is really interesting, Atlas used these until the late 80s. It's a rotating wheel with numbers on it, and a micro bulb behind (replaced by an LED here). An improved take on the rotating wheel indicators that Westinghouse and others used decades before. Other than that, simple fixtures, but still look very cool, Classe A fixtures are always epic just be themselves. The bronze serial number badge with above the COP is kinda rare, especially for the time this one was manufactured. It's the version made by Artismetal, instead of the more common one by Piazzi. The only difference is the thinner font on the logo. Performance is also just as great as it looks, flawless, and very good. Great ride quality, and feels very comfortable overall, for what it is. It's quite smooth for a 2-speed, of course, still gonna have the jolts when changing speeds, but they aren't any strong or uncomfortable on this one. Another thing is the door operator, notice how smoothly and fast the internal doors run. The relay controller is working perfectly too, no issues with the operation here. Sounds are darn epic too - all very echo-y through the shaft, the higher-pitched screams that this smaller traction machine makes when starting and stopping are pretty cool, and even better, the DC pulsing on the door operator. Never heard an Atlas sound like this before, the noise kinda "speeds up" after the door closes, and stays on during the entire ride, echoing inside of the cab and out into the shaft - just awesome to listen! Maintenance by Atlas Schindler, kinda surprising to see in this type of building. They're mantaining this quite well, the owner says that both elevators here are very reliable and very rarely have any issues... which is great to know! Specifications: Manufacturer: ATLAS - Villares Maintainer: Atlas Schindler Model: Classe A / "Atlas 2000" Fixtures: Classe A, 1st generation, pushbutton Type: Passenger Residential Hoisting: Traction Doors: 2-speed sliding (APC 1A operator), manual swing landings Capacity: 420 kg/6 persons (apx. 925 lbs.) In Service: ~ mid/late 1980s Floors Served: (SS - T * - 1/6) Controller: ACBD, relay controlled Motor System: Atlas CE-125, AC-driven Rating: 10/10 - This is GREAT in all senses. Not only a first for me, and one I rarely find around here, it's in excellent shape in all senses - overall conservation, performance, nothing wrong here. Epic sounding, both the motor and door operator's DC injection system. Fixtures are also very cool, the rotating indicator, alarm buzzer, all that. Very reliable too, and having great maintenance. Overall just plain amazing, and awesome elevator! Hard to find one of these that's still looking and running all perfectly as this one... Filmed: March 31, 2023 Camera: Samsung Galaxy A52 © 2023 L.
