In this video, I break down the gear I no longer carry on hikes and in my get-home bag, explaining why I decided to leave these items behind. When it comes to survival and emergency situations, carrying the right gear is crucial, but so is knowing what to leave out to avoid unnecessary weight and bulk. First, I stopped using my non-breathable emergency bivvy bags because they trap sweat, making them uncomfortable and potentially hazardous in cold conditions due to moisture retention. Next up is the LifeStraw; while it seemed like a good idea for quick water filtration, it wasn't versatile enough for my needs. I also decided to ditch the multitool because it's too bulky and heavy for what it offers. I no longer daily carry a Garmin GPS device, as I've found that traditional navigation skills are more reliable and often sufficient for most situations. An axe was another piece of gear that didn't make the cut – it's too heavy and isn't necessary for most tasks I encounter in emergency situations. Lastly, the CamelBak backpack tends to cause excessive sweating, which can be dangerous if you become dehydrated or need to conserve energy and moisture. By re-evaluating my gear, I've streamlined my setup for better efficiency and safety. It's all about having the right tools for the job without weighing yourself down.
