The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Medly) – For Woodwind Quintet & Solo Ocarina Original Composer: Koji Kando Arranged by: Jacob Weber This chamber piece is written for Woodwind Quintet and solo Ocarina in C. This piece is a medley of songs that the hero Link learns on his adventure in Hyrule to save Princess Zelda from the Demon King Ganondorf. The idea behind this composition is that the ocarina represents Link and the different instruments in the woodwind quintet are the different characters who teach Link the different songs that help him progress in the game. Each tune is started by a singular instrument that "teaches" the ocarina (Link) the first part of the melody. Then the ocarina completes the full melody similar to how, in the game, Link will complete the song after being taught it by a character. Then the full arrangement of the song comes in with the instrument that taught Link the melody and Link himself playing together. This format repeats until the last piece where it returns to a full woodwind quintet piece with solo Ocarina. The songs in Medly include the "Main Title" from Ocarina of Time, which is played by the full quintet and solo ocarina."Epona's Song" which is taught by the Horn then goes into the full arrangement of "Lon-Lon Ranch". "Saria's Song" which is taught by the Oboe then goes into the full arrangement of "Lost Woods". "Sun's Song" taught by the Flute. "Song of Time" is taught by the Bassoon and goes into the full arrangement of "Temple of Time". "Song of Storms" is taught by Clarinet and goes into the full arrangement of "Windmill Hut". The piece concludes with "Zelda's Lullaby" which is a full woodwind quintet arrangement with a solo ocarina added in. This composition is one of my first full-fledged arrangements for woodwinds. When performing if one wishes to wear the "Hero's Tunic" while playing the ocarina that would be acceptable, and the other instruments can dress as the different character who teaches Link the songs and or the different races in the games. This arrangement uses the sound of a woodwind quintet and solo ocarina (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, French Horn, Bassoon, and Solo Ocarina).
