Deanna Tikhonov WHNP-BC gives an overview on IUDs, or intrauterine devices in this video. If you are considering getting an IUD, this episode is a great tool to help you decide if this method would be right for you! In this video I discuss the different kinds of IUDs out there which include a non-hormonal IUD and hormonal IUDs that have progestin within them. UPDATE: The FDA has approved one of the hormonal IUDs for 6 years, so now there are options for a 3 year, 5 year and 6 year hormonal IUD in the U.S (my video references 3-5 years). I review how each IUD can effect your periods a bit differently and how effective the IUDs are at preventing pregnancy.
