"My teaching path started back in 1995 heading a capoeira project at a psychiatric hospital in Rio together with Luiz Cantador. That challenging project paved my way with tremendous humanness, intuition, humility to adapt and impart the knowledge to people who were in a very bad mental shape. The experience could be quite frightening at times too, nonetheless my commitment to serve those souls were stronger than the fears I had to face. For 1 1/2 years I was learning, right out in the battle field, how to deal with totally unpredictable situations that urged me to respond in creative manners, resilience and emotional intelligence. As far as teaching is concerned, this invaluable experience was my professional ground, a first register that ignited a self-taught quality in my teaching style, so much so that, ever since, I don’t recall having repeated one single class like another, over the past 28 years. The process has been like a flowing river that keeps changing and evolving constantly and consistently, and that’s why I can never get bored with teaching , no matter how deep I dive into that habit hole, teaching for me is like an exceedingly fine craftsmanship, a precious artistry that sparks lots of wholeheartedness and freedom within my soul and body."
