This one is a pin and cone headstock so the repair process is slightly different to the recent Q Fit ones. Firstly, the remains of the old plates are removed, cut off with the plasma cutter, gouged away with the arc air gouger and then smoothed off with the grinder. The usual cracks are found at the weld edge, these are also gouged out but with the plasma. New bigger plates are profiled out on the cnc table from 25mm plate using the gas cutting torch, these are then cleaned up, drilled and tapped for the M16 bolt to hold the pin in. The headstock is welded down onto the bench with some prestress to help prevent it from bowing due to welding. Its preheated and the cracks are welded up. Next job is to tack the new plates into position and cut and press the strengthening plate to fit in the middle. A plate to go under the upright plates is also plasma cut from 10mm plate. Everything is then welded up. After its cooled down, the pressure is released from the headstock by cutting it off the bench. It can then be line bored back to size. I make the decision to quickly test fit it onto our own machine, all fits good so final good is to give it a paint. Hope you enjoyed the video Thanks for watching!
