In this video, we run through several options and discuss the 9" Ford rear end differentials including spool and posi types. 9" rears are very strong and have many benefits. When looking at these carriers, it's essential to be sure the bore size in the case matches the bearing size necessary for carrier. Spools keep both axles turning at the same rate of speed. This can make it hard to make tight turns as the tire wants to drag. These are the least expensive and great for drag racing. The spool does not give the best driving experience for a street car. Posi units like this Truetrac allow each axle to turn at a different rate of speed. This makes for a much better driving experience. This unit is gear driven and has no springs or clutches to wear out. Spring and clutch posi units are good for a lower horsepower street car on a street tire.
