San Juan Pools - Huntington Beach in Granite

Building a pool is an expensive proposition and selecting a contractor is probably the most important step in the entire process. We found, at least in our area, some companies were very forthcoming with costs while others were not or have a long list of, what I would consider, basic items that are not included (like electrical or hauling away dirt) which adds additional uncertainty to the entire process and leaves the customer attempting to find additional reputable vendors. While getting references or seeing other pools the contractor has built is important, I would say that the personalities are equally important as you will be working with the contractor for a number of months and you want to work with someone you feel very comfortable with and is customer service oriented. From the day our pool was delivered, it was 36 days (with a hurricane in the middle) until the pool was complete and the last piece of sod was put down. Best Pools of SC We can certainly recommend Best Pools of SC if you decide on a fiberglass pool. They are relatively new to the Upstate of SC but have been installing pools in the Myrtle Beach area for a long time. Scott not only did great work, is very conscientious, and made several recommendations along the way that I think enhanced overall look of the finished project. As a first-time pool owner, everyone from Best Pools was very open to answering the plethora of questions I had going through the process. In addition, Scott even recommended other landscaping and irrigation vendors that we could work with during the pool building process. San Juan Pools As noted in the video, we are happy with our pool choice and the quality of San Juan Pools – but were not happy with San Juan’s customer service and missing the estimated timeline by a considerable margin (promised to be delivered in 4-6 weeks – actual was 14 weeks). Additionally, even the regional sales rep for San Juan had a pretty cavalier attitude when I spoke to him after 8 weeks. He couldn’t give me an estimated delivery at that time and offered nothing (other than a full refund if we wanted to cancel) for the delay. My understanding is that they are now giving more accurate estimates but that was not our experience. In summary, we’d recommend Best Pools and San Juan Pools – but to be on the safe side - build in an extra 6-8 weeks from San Juan’s delivery estimates. If they are more accurate, you’ll be pleasantly surprised but if your experience is more like ours, then you won’t be disappointed. For those considering an inground pool, here is a listing of our equipment: Contractor: Best Pools of SC (Scott and Vonni) Pool: San Juan Pools – Huntington Beach (15x28) in Granite Pump: Hayward TriStar VS 900 & Auto fill Filter: Hayward StarClear Plus C17502 Sanitation: Hayward TCell940 saltwater system Additional Sanitation: Paramount Ultra UV2 Automation: Hayward OmniPL Water Features: 1 bubbler, 2 sheer decent waterfalls Landscape Lighting: Kings Outdoor Lighting Landscaping: B&B Landscaping If you research the information above, you can certainly build a pool cheaper than we did. There are cheaper pumps, you can put off an automation system until later (as well as the salt system and UV system we put in). Further, the retaining wall and extra concrete pad added about 14% to the overall cost of the project which you may not need depending on the slope of your yard and location of the pool. We also put sod down and had some French drains put in that also added about 7% to the overall cost. I know costs vary significantly based on location, but to give you an idea, here’s a breakout our costs by percentages. Fiberglass Pool with equipment and 4’ concrete pad: 70.4% Salt system: 2% Retaining Wall: 5.7% Waterfalls & Autofill: 2.2% Electric (we had to run it about 130’): 1.3% UV System: 1.6% Addnl Concrete: 8.1% Automation: 1.9% Landscaping, irrigation and French drains: 6.8%
