ACA P-15 Siren Test - Full Alert - Earlham, Iowa

Date: 5/2/20 Location: NE 4th Street, Earlham, Iowa Temp: 75°F Signal: 3 minute alert Units Heard: ACA P-15 (main unit) - 200ft Quite a long story for this one. Earlier this month, Max and I recovered some information on Facebook that suggested that all communities in Madison County, which is just southwest of Des Moines, tested their sirens on the first Saturday of the month at 1:00PM. Figuring we had nothing to lose after the successful test in West Des Moines, we decided to give this refurbished P-15 in Earlham a go, which formerly served as part of the Fort Calhoun nuclear power station EPZ system in eastern Nebraska. Neither of us thought it would actually do anything, but right at 1, the motor starter engaged. It took the worn starter caps a few seconds to get the thing rolling, but it eventually got a grip and finished the windup at lightning speed. This is one of the loudest sirens I’ve heard, and blew every single tone P-15 I’ve heard clean out of the water. It also threw some amazing echoes off of nearby houses. Unfortunately, due to strong wind, I had to apply image stabilization to this one so the video is a little shaky, but other than that the video isn’t bad. Enjoy! Madison County tests their siren system on the first Saturday of every month at 1PM March-October, weather permitting.
