Corning, NY: America's Crystal City | GlassFest, Corning Museum of Glass, Hands-on Glass Blowing!

Come with us as we explore all things glass and art in America's Crystal City! Located in New York's Southern Finger Lakes region, Corning has a deep history of all things glass. From light bulbs and bakeware to glass art and sculpture, Corning is synonymous with glass thanks to Corning Incorporated and the world famous Corning Museum of Glass. Obviously a trip to Corning isn't complete with visiting the museum and we were blown away from the glass art and artifacts that span over 3,500 years of glassmaking. The museum began in 1951 to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Corning Glass Works (now Corning Incorporated) and in the 70+ years since, it has become the foremost collection of glass in the world. Join us as we start at the beginning of glassmaking and cover 35 centuries of artistry. If you are a fan of Netflix's Blown Away glassmaking competition, this is the museum for you! There is a special exhibit featuring works from the most recent season that are a must see for every visitor. And don't forget the live demonstrations! The museum is full of glass blowing, fusing, and breaking demonstrations so there is something around every corner. You can't visit Corning without trying your hand at glass blowing. There is something magical about taking hot, almost liquid glass and forming a beautiful piece of art with your own hands (and breath!). Since the Corning Museum of Glass offers personal classes, we made sure to check them out. Corning's Gaffer District is a must see for any visitor. Home to over 100 shops, restaurants, and art galleries along a 5-block brick lined street, there is always something to see and do. It's no wonder Corning is referred to as America's most fun small town! And what better way to experience the fun than to experience Corning's GlassFest! GlassFest is the city's annual festival welcoming the summer season. The Gaffer District comes alive with artists, vendors, and food all in celebration of public art. Its the perfect way to see Corning and the festival culminates in a concert and fireworks over the Chemung River at Riverfront Centennial Park. Come with us on our adventure in the Crystal City!
