painting an OWL in WATERCOLOURS

As watercolourists we are generally working from lighter tonal values down to darker ones. Therefore learning to paint shadows is very important. This video is firstly about looking for large shadow areas. These are a great way to simplify a painting and also to help it "hold together"; and using a simple thought process of - light - medium shadow, deep shadow, can really help tackle even complex subjects. This owl for example; it would be very easy to get distracted and caught up in the markings, which are beautiful; but by focusing on painting shadows, and large shapes we can hint at the markings but not get lost! _______________________________________________ Full length Version over on the "Patreon Archive" of my Watercolour School: https://schoolofwatercolour.co.uk/ ________________________________________________ MATERIALS: - Baohong Watercolour Paper Half sheet - approx. 16" x 22" - Escoda Ultimo - Faux Squirrel Mop, size 18 - Winsor & Newton Medium Size Quill Brush - faux squirrel - Jackson’s Raven Mop, Size 0 - faux squirrel - Winsor & Newton Rounds, size * & 10 - faux sable COLOURS - Ultramarine Blue (Cobalt) - Prussian Blue (Pthalo, Indanthrone) - Quinacridone Red (Alizarin Crimson, Rose Madder, Carmine) - Yellow Ochre (any warm or transparent yellow) - Quinacridone Deep Gold (Burnt Sienna) - Lavender by Holbein (opaque white mixed with blue) ____________________________ --- Links to me ---   / tomshepherdartist   https://www.tomshepherdart.com/ https://www.stitcher.com/show/creativ... ______________________________ --- Series Details --- This easy to understand painting tutorial is designed for watercolorists of any ability or experience level.
