Extreme Drop Protection in a Crystal Clear Case? Mous Clarity for iPhone Xs Max!

Mous made its name with crazy high drop tests with its Limitless case, and with the new Clarity, it promises crystal clear beauty combined with industry leading drop protection. The Mous Clarity for iPhone Xs Max has a scratch and yellowing resistant back panel and is engineered to provide serious drop protection for your device. It also has a nice slim form factor and a great feel in the hand. How protective is it? Mous made their name by dropping Mous-protected iPhones from cranes, helicopters and the like, and having the phones emerging unscathed. Their YouTube videos are quite impressive. However, there is little in the way of concrete protection claims in their product descriptions—no drop ratings, etc. They even have a small package insert advising you that although they have subjected their products to extreme testing, they advise you not to do so yourself. So it could be that their cases might not be quite as tough as they say. However, they seem well made and have a very nice look and feel on the phone, and I think that they should provide solid, if not completely indestructible, protection. Pros: Very protective Slim form factor for a protective case. High lip on bottom and top of the case gives a lot of protection for the screen, while making the case feel slimmer in the hand and allowing easier swiping from side to side. Crystal clear back shows off the phone beautifully. Fins (small ridges) on the back of the case will keep the middle of the clear case back from touching flat surfaces when the phone is laid on its back. This should help minimize scratching—always a concern with glossy clear cases. There is also a micro-abrasion resistant coating which should help reduce scratching too. Tiny dots on the interior of the clear back do a good job in combatting watermarking. TPU in the case sides gives the case a reasonably secure grip in the hand. Not very grippy, but grippy enough. Back has basically no grip, however. Buttons are responsive and very clicky. Fit of the case is very secure—no sagging or loose areas, with just a tiny amount of give over the volume buttons. Comes with an impact resistant plastic screen protector. Sufficient protection for the back camera. Supports wireless charging. Cons: No drop height rating given—just general statements about how protective the case is. Microphone and speaker port openings are unnecessarily large. Slits to facilitate button action can potentially let dust or dirt into the case. Unlike Mous’s Limitless case line, the Clarity does not work with any magnetic accessories.
