BRIEF HISTORY OF THE MARGARITA According to cocktail historian David Wondrich, the margarita is merely a popular Mexican and American drink, the Daisy (margarita is Spanish for “daisy”), remade with tequila instead of brandy, which became popular during Prohibition as people drifted over the border for alcohol. Liquor.com. CLASSIC MARGARITA The classic Margarita recipe is a simple 3:2:1 ratio of strong, sour and sweet. No need for adding extra simple syrup as the sugar content of the triple sec/Cointreau balances the sour. Margaritas are a party drink so I like to serve them in an old fashioned glass over ice! INGREDIENTS - 45mL Blanco Tequila (1½ oz) - 15mL Triple Sec (½ oz) - 30mL Fresh Lime Juice (1 oz) METHOD 1. With a touch more tequila and the replacement of Triple Sec with agave syrup. 15mL of agave syrup is plenty otherwise it will overtake the drink. INGREDIENTS - 60mL Tequila (2 oz) - 30mL Fresh Lime Juice (1 oz) - 15mL Agave Syrup (½ oz) METHOD 1. Combine all ingredients into your cocktail shaker 2. Shake with ice 3. Strain over fresh ice into an old fashioned glass 4. Garnish with a slice of lime FROZEN MANGO MARGARITA The Frozen Margarita is the perfect summer, Tequila cocktail with versatility. Utilise a multitude of different fruits to customise your Margarita - Strawberry and Mango and two favourites! INGREDIENTS - 45mL Tequila (1½ oz) - 15mL Triple Sec (½ oz) - 30mL Fresh Lime Juice (1 oz) - Mango Puree, Pulp or Cheeks METHOD 1. Combine all ingredients into your blender jug 2. Blend for 20-30 seconds or until smooth 3. Pour into a coupe or Margarita glass 4. Garnish with a lime wheel CUCUMBER & JALAPENO MARGARITA A spicy variation on a classic Margarita! The spicy jalapenos pair nicely with the cooling properties of fresh cucumber. Adds a little bit of a kick to your standard Margarita. INGREDIENTS - 45mL Blanco Tequila (1½ oz) - 15mL Triple Sec (½ oz) - 30mL Fresh Lime Juice (1 oz) - Cucumber - Jalapeno METHOD 1. Muddle a few slices of cucumber into your cocktail shaker 2. Add a few slices of jalapeno (muddling these is optional - hot!) 3. Combine the remaining ingredients into your shaker 4. Shake with ice 5. Dump contents into a salt rimmed old fashioned glass MEXICAN BULLDOG (Coronita Margarita Recipe) The Mexican Bulldog a.k.a Frozen Coronita Margarita is the perfect beer cocktail for a hot summers day. It combines refreshing cold beer with a citrusy, tequila-based cocktail, the Margarita! INGREDIENTS - 60mL Tequila (2 oz) - 22.5mL Triple Sec (¾ oz) - 37.5mL Fresh Lime Juice (1¼ oz) - Coronita (or another Mexican Beer) METHOD 1. Combine all ingredients except the beer into your blender 2. Blend with ice for 20-30 seconds or until smooth 3. Pour into a large glass (a Boston or pint glass works well) 4.
