This model is a Bargue Plate, it comes from a nineteenth century drawing course, once forgotten, now commonly used in modern ateliers. I’ve already recommended the book plenty of times on this channel, if you don’t know yet, you should have it but you can also download the printer friendly, clean image on my website. This drawing is supposed to be done sight-size, which is a great technique for figurative drawing and painting. To make it short, the drawing and the model are placed side by side vertically and an observation spot is placed two or three steps away from the easel. Yes, you’re supposed to be standing up, even better moving back and forth from your easel. Forget about sitting down, your entire body will be involved in this exercise.
