The word 'Deul' literally means temple or temple. Banda Deul is one of the most important landmarks of Indian architecture. On the way from Raghunathpur town of Purulia towards Cheliyama village, Banda village is on the right side. From here one can reach this Deul premises by walking. The 75-foot-tall rock wall has stood as a witness to thousands of years of history in the sprawling Palash desert. This deul stands on a large altar measuring 250 feet in length and 150 feet in width; Although most of the stones of that altar have collapsed. Deul is facing North. In front is a large mandapa built of stone. It used to be very large, but now only a small part survives. The entrance to the deul is 6 feet high and 3 feet wide. At the entrance you can see the outstanding stone carvings. The scenes of people playing comedy, vines, various musical instruments have been beautifully portrayed by skilled artists. However, during official repairs, the unskilled artists of this era have covered most of the parts with cement lining. There is a mind-boggling variety of crafts throughout Deul. Several stones on the upper part of the entrance on the northern side of the deul have fallen. Built around 9th-10th century AD, this deul was founded by the Jains. But now Jains are no longer seen in this village.
