Syllabic L is another way native speakers reduce their speech, by making unstressed syllables shorter and faster. Rule: Normally in English we need a vowel letter to create a syllable. However, there are some consonant letters that can create their own syllable. L is one of them. The syllabic L is found in unstressed syllables with the letter /L/. The vowel sound is dropped and the L takes up the whole syllable.
