PA How to Register to Vote

[Image Description: a white woman with short brown hair wearing blue shirt and red earrings explaining how to register to vote in PA. The background is plain and white.] Script from Pennsylvania State Senator Wayne D. Fontana's office How to Register The last day to register to vote in order to be able to vote in the Nov. 5 general election is October 21. If you’re not registered and wish to vote, don’t wait! The simplest and quickest way to register is to do so online at www.vote.pa.gov or by clicking here. To be eligible to vote, you must be a United States citizen at least 30 days before the next election, be a resident of Pennsylvania and your election district for at least 30 days before the next election and be at least 18 years of age on the day of the next election. In addition to name, address and birth date, you will provide either your driver’s license number or the last 4 digits of your Social Security number. If you are already registered, you may also use this site to make changes to your registration. Another way to register to vote is to mail a paper application to the Allegheny County Elections Office at: 542 Forbes Avenue, Suite 312 Pittsburgh, PA 15219-2913 Paper applications can be downloaded by clicking here or visiting www.vote.pa.gov. You may also register in person at the above address. Voting By Mail Act 77 of 2019 was a bi-partisan comprehensive voter reform bill that in-part enables Pennsylvania voters to vote by mail. The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot for the 2024 general election is October 29. Completed mail-in ballots must be received by the Allegheny County Elections Office no later than 8 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 5. The simplest and quickest way to apply for a mail-in ballot is to do so online at www.vote.pa.gov or by clicking here. Similar to registering to vote, you will need to provide your name, address and provide either a driver’s license number or the last four digits of your Social Security number. You may also apply by mail. Applications can be downloaded at www.vote.pa.gov or by clicking here and mailed to the Allegheny County Elections Office at: 542 Forbes Avenue, Suite 312 Pittsburgh, PA 15219-2913 When you apply for a mail-in ballot, regardless of whether you apply online or by paper application, you will be asked on the application if you want to be placed on the annual mail list. If you answer “yes” then you will receive mail-in ballots for all elections the rest of that year. You will NOT automatically receive a mail-in ballot in following years, rather in following years you will receive only an application for mail-in ballots. If you’re on the annual mail list, you should receive this application each year in February. If you wish to vote by mail, you need to complete that application once you receive it in February and return it to the Allegheny County Elections Division in the envelope they provide. Voting in Person If you wish to vote in person on Nov. 5 and need to find your polling place, you can do so online at https://www.pavoterservices.pa.gov/pages/p.... Polls in Pennsylvania on Election Day are open from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. Anyone in line at 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote. First-time voters at a polling place will be asked to show identification. Accepted forms can be seen by clicking here. Checking your Voter Registration Status If you are unsure on your voter registration status, whether you are on the annual mail list, where your polling place is, or what voting districts you reside in, you can get that information by using the Find Voter Registration Status form on the Pennsylvania Department of State website. You may also call the Allegheny County Elections Office at 412-350-4500. No matter how you vote, make sure you have a plan. Nov. 5 will be here before you know it and mail-in voting will start even sooner!
