The Jews of Spain and Portugal moved to the new world following the conquistadors and with the conquistadors came the "blood purity" laws of Spain. And so the Jews in the Americas continued to hide any Jewish practices that they might have retained. His life's work concerned the intricate relations between Christianity, Islam, and Judaism throughout history and in modern times. He served as Professor in the Department of Theology for a quarter of a century. While there he was also invited to teach at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
