Bears Ears National Monument / The Wolfman Panel / Ruins / Comb Ridge ~ UT

It's time to explore an outdoor museum of petroglyphs, pictographs, and Native American ruins along Comb Ridge, also known as Butler Wash, which is located near Bluff, Utah, on Cedar Mesa, in the Bear's Ears National Monument. Most people visit this area as a day trip and visit a couple of the sites before heading back to their hotel, campsite, or home again. Since I don't have anywhere to 'return to', I spent a week along this section of Comb Ridge. In this and the next few videos, I share some of the caves and the intriguing messages written on the stone walls, with you. These sites can all be found online if you wish to come here and see them for yourself. Be warned though, I haven't found any web page that will give you coordinates to the exact trailheads, and I hope nobody ever does that. Even the BLM hasn't put any trailhead markers on these trails, and I'm glad because it makes finding the trailhead more fun. A bit like the old days, before Google and All Trails was invented. Seems like I'm giving my age away now since I can actually refer to the 'old days.' Even 'older' women can enjoy traveling alone and exploring the great outdoors. As long as you can walk, you can do this too! *Note ~ It is illegal to vandalize, steal artifacts, or deface any rock imagery or ruin along Comb Ridge, or anywhere else. If you see this happening, please contact the BLM or appropriate local enforcement. Get pictures, videos, etc of the culprit as evidence if you can do so safely. Here is a rough idea of where the trailheads are for the hikes I did along Comb Ridge, in Episodes 4, 5, 6, Year 16: Departing Hwy 95 and heading south down Butler Wash on unpaved Road 262, then 230 drive about (tire size and odometer variance changes this for each vehicle) 8.5 miles - Fish Mouth Cave trailhead 11.2 miles - Get back on Road 262 13.6 miles - Cold Springs Cave trailhead 13.9 miles - Monarch Cave trailhead 14.5 miles - Procession Panel trailhead 17.1 miles - Double Stack Ruin 20.0 miles - The Wolfman Panel 21.0 miles - Intersect Hwy 163 (From south to north, calculate the mileage in reverse). I spent seven days in this 21-mile section of Comb Ridge, but the average person just drives in and out the same day, visiting the sites that interest them most. The road at the northern end has deep washes and is rougher, but the southern end is in much better shape. It is maintained by the BLM, and now that it is part of Bears Ears National Monument and receives more visitors, it is in much better shape than it was in the past. Even so, this road can be impassable when wet. DID YOU ENJOY THIS VIDEO?
