Cécile McLorin Salvant sings a cover of the Kate Bush songs "Wuthering Heights" and "Breathing" live in concert at SFJazz in San Francisco, California on February 12, 2022. Wuthering Heights was the lead single from Kate Bush's debut studio album, The Kick Inside (1978), and reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. Breathing was the lead single from Bush's third studio album, Never For Ever (1980). Salvant released a studio version of Wuthering Heights on her sixth studio album, Ghost Song (2022). Salvant is a Grammy Award winning jazz vocalist from Miami, Florida. Joining her onstage were Sullivan Fortner (piano), Keita Ogawa (percussion), and Alexa Tarantino (flute, piccolo, alto flute). ============= Wuthering Heights lyrics: Out on the wily, windy moors We'd roll and fall in green You had a temper like my jealousy Too hot, too greedy How could you leave me When I needed to possess you? I hated you, I loved you too Bad dreams in the night They told me I was going to lose the fight Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering Wuthering Heights Heathcliff, it's me, Cathy I’ve come home, I'm so cold Let me in-a-your window Heathcliff, it's me, Cathy I’ve come home, I'm so cold Let me in-a-your window Ooh, it gets dark, it gets lonely On the other side from you I pine a lot, I find the lot Falls through without you I'm coming back, love, cruel Heathcliff My one dream, my only master Too long I roam in the night I'm coming back to his side to put it right I'm coming home to wuthering, wuthering Wuthering Heights Heathcliff, it's me, Cathy I’ve come home, I'm so cold Let me in-a-your window Heathcliff, it's me, Cathy I’ve come home, I'm so cold Let me in-a-your window Written by Catherine Bush (a/k/a Kate Bush) ========= Cecile McLorin Salvant official bio: Three-time Grammy Winner Cécile McLorin Salvant is the “finest jazz singer to emerge in the last decade” (New York Times). She returns with her quartet to perform music from her forthcoming Nonesuch release, Ghost Song, featuring a diverse mix of seven originals and five interpretations on the themes of ghosts, nostalgia and yearning. Salvant says, “It’s unlike anything I’ve done before—it’s getting closer to reflecting my personality as an eclectic curator. I’m embracing my weirdness!” Possessing a deep, velvety voice, rhythmic poise, and a sublime feel for the blues, Salvant combines conservatory-honed technique with a beguiling gift for lyrical interpretation — a singular, inimitable talent that won her the 2010 Thelonious Monk International Vocals Competition and drew the attention of early collaborators Jacky Terrasson and Wynton Marsalis. Her 2013 American debut album, the Grammy-nominated WomanChild, was the first real opportunity for American audiences to hear why Salvant had become a European sensation. Since then, her profile has taken a meteoric course around the world. For these dates, she performs with a phenomenal new quartet including pianist Sullivan Fortner, who partnered with Salvant on the duo release The Window. With a repertoire full of lesser-known jazz and blues gems and a sly gift for lyrical re-interpretation through her contemporary sensibility, Salvant brings theatrical intensity to every song she sings. ======== Cécile McLorin Salvant live tour dates (2021 - 2022): Nov. 30 - Dec. 2 - Boston, MA @ New England Conservatory Dec. 11 - Princeton, NJ @ Berlind Theater Dec. 12 - Philadelphia, PA @ Zellerbach Theater Jan. 13 - Mirimas, France @ Theatre la Colonne Jan. 15 - Marciac, France @ L’Astrada Jan. 18 - Milan, Italy @ Blue Note Jan. 20 - Zurich, Switzerland @ Moods Jazz Club Jan. 23 - Basel, Switzerland @ Stadt Casino Feb. 5 - Boston, MA @ Berklee Performing Center Feb. 6 - Greenwich, CT @ Greenwich Library Feb. 8 - Santa Fe, NM @ Lensic Performing Arts Center Feb. 10 - San Francisco, CA @ SF Jazz (Miner Auditorium) Feb. 11 - San Francisco, CA @ SF Jazz (Miner Auditorium) Feb. 12 - San Francisco, CA @ SF Jazz (Miner Auditorium) Feb. 13 - San Francisco, CA @ SF Jazz (Miner Auditorium) March 10 -11 - Stockholm, Sweden @ Stockholm Concert Hall March 13 - Oslo, Norway @ Nasjonal Jazzscene Victoria March 15 - Vienna, Austria @ Wiene Konzerthaus March 17 - Waiblingen, Germany @ Buergerzentrum March 18 - Cologne, Germany @ Philharmonie March 19 - Kassel, Germany @ Jazz Festival Staatstheater March 21 - Brno, Czech Republic @ Besedni Dum March 25 - Copenhagen, Denmark @ DR Concert Hall March 26 - Vejle, Denmark @ Vejle Musik Teater March 27 - Aarhus, Denmark @ Musikhuset Aarhus April 16 - Pompano Beach, FL @ Pompano Beach Cultural Center April 23 - Newport News, VA @ Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center May 13-14 - New York, NY @ Jazz at Lincoln Center (Rose Hall) May 15 - North Cape May, NJ @ Exit Zero Jazz Festival June 2 - Minneapolis, MN @ Dakota June 3 - Chicago, IL @ Chicago Symphony Center June 10 - Charleston, SC @ Spoleto Festival June 24 - Ottawa, ON @ Ottawa Jazz Festival June 27 - Vancouver, BC @ Vancouver Playhouse
