Best Road Bikes for £1,000 / $1,400 Reviewed | Is It REALLY Worth Spending More?

Around £1,000, $1,400 or €1,200 is roughly the amount of money many of us spend on our first serious road bike. Sadly we can’t all afford dream worthy models found in our top five road bikes video, but, it’s around this price bikes start getting really good, and they’re noticeably better than truly entry level ones. A big thanks to our sponsors for helping us make this year's Bike of The Year a reality: Muc-Off, Lazer, 100%, Q36.5 and Garmin. The video contains product placement from our sponsors but rest assured our reviews will always remain impartial, backed up by our expert test team. If you’re shopping for a bike right now you’ve no doubt noticed that everything seems to be more expensive than it was a couple of years ago. And, availability is a huge problem – thanks to the pandemic! We set out to do a £1,000 bikes test and ended up covering a price range around the £1000 price point. We’re featuring bikes from Cannondale, Specialized, Ribble, Boardman, and Vitus. You’ll notice this test includes some bikes that offer more versatility than traditional race bikes. That’s a reflection of a very welcome trend in the bike industry towards designs that are suited to a greater range of riding. It’s now common for road bikes to have larger tyre clearances and disc brakes, making them better suited to potholed roads and riding in all weathers. But what do you think is the best road bike for around £1000 or $1400? Would you prefer lighter weight and road bike geometry or do you like the versatility of wider tyres and gravel adjacent geometry?
