Why is the energy price cap rising again? | LBC

Typical households now face a £149 increase on the average bill this winter after Britain's energy regulator announced the energy price cap will increase by 10% in October. It puts increasing pressure on the government, after it announced plans to cut the winter fuel allowance for pensioners - a move that is set to see around 10 million people stripped of the allowance. Matthew Wright asks if it was 'naive to assume a new Labour government would end the dilemma of heating and eating'. He is joined by Professor David Reiner, assistant director of the University of Cambridge’s energy policy research group and former government adviser, who says that looking at energy efficiency 'would be a start to address the more fundamental problems' causing the price hikes. Matthew Wright also speaks to Gary Caffell, Deputy Editor of MoneySavingExpert.com, who offers advice for people who will struggle this winter.
