Land is a crucial asset for business. Land degradation induced changes have a direct impact on the cost structure and profitability of a company. However, the costs of land degradation and the benefits of restoring land are not well understood and often not fully accounted for in public or private decision-making processes. 25% of usable land globally is degraded, at an estimated economic loss of US$ 40 billion per year. The urgency of addressing this challenge is increasingly acknowledged by governments worldwide. Land degradation neutrality (LDN) has recently been adopted under SDG #15. Yet building a world that is land degradation neutral will require the support of business to reverse this negative trend and scale up sustainable land management. This video explains why land degradation should be on top of the business agenda and highlights the opportunities that sustainable land management practices represent for business.
