Skopje is the capital and largest city of North Macedonia. It is the country's political, cultural, economic, and academic centre. Skopje lies in the Skopje Basin. Scupi is attested for the first time in the second century AD as a city in Roman Dardania. Birthplace of Mother Teresa, location of the Kale Fortress, and capital of North Macedonia, Skopje is North Macedonia's largest city and it has a rich history. Through the heart of the city flows the Vardar river, with the more historical buildings on one bank and the modern buildings on the other. The Stone Bridge, originally built in the 15th century, connects these two halves of the center together. Skopje has a warm temperate climate. It is populated by a variety of museums, archaeological sites, and other places of interest. Walking is the healthiest and most adventurous to get around Skopje. Statue of Alexander the Great is in the center of the square. At night it is lit up with different colors. The square is surrounded by statues of other luminaries and many good restaurants. You can walk across the Stone Bridge to the Holocaust Museum. There are also many street musicians performing.
