Voluntary in A Minor - John Robinson - W. Bell Reed Organ

John Robinson, and English composer, was born in 1682 and died in 1762. John Hawkins, in his book A General History of the Science and Practice of Music, wrote that Robinson had a florid style of playing the organ, which was popular with audiences; it was "calculated to display the agility of his fingers in allegro movements" rather than displaying "the full and noble harmony" of the organ. He left a few organ compositions; among them two-part Voluntaries which are the most common, where the Voluntary in A minor is displayed here – except played on a reed organ. This style of music is normally not what I try to play, and it is a little out of my comfort zone – but it was very different from my usual and it was enjoyable to learn. It is probably more suited for a pipe organ with baroque voices, but I like to be different :) This organ was made by W. Bell & Co in the year of 1892 in Guelph, Ontario Canada, and it was completely rebuilt and restored from 2021 to 2022.
