I remember my mom would make these for us and we would devour them. Funny how my son does the same thing now. :) And there's actually two main styles of inari in Japan. The Kanto (Tokyo) style is known for the rectangular pouches, while the Kansai (Osaka) area cuts them into triangles. What we see most often in the United States is usually the rectangular Kanto style, which is easier to make and what I teach in this video. Fun fact - The name inarizushi originates from the Inari shrines in Japan. It is said that foxes are the messengers for the Inari god and their favorite thing to eat is aburaage (deep fried tofu pouch). Therefore, it became a common offering, and eventually became what we know of it today.
