One Life to Live 1/24/1990

[Note: Scenes featuring Michael and Brenda are missing, and likely some Viki/Clint and other scenes as well] After a restless night alone with his thoughts, Max tells Andy he is through with Gabrielle (If only!). Andy can barely hide her glee at the proclamation, but she’s not entirely certain Max is happy about his newly declared freedom. Meanwhile, in her own bed, Gabrielle’s fantasy about Max turns into a nightmare of Max being consumed by hellfire. She is awoken by Father Vallone knocking on the door. She tells him about her nightmare, but Tony thinks she’s overreacting to the dream. Viki and Clint are about to discuss their marital problems when Marital Problem Number One, Roger Gordon, calls to tell Viki to turn on her TV and watch the mayor’s special announcement. The mayor denies any prior knowledge of the drug operation going on under his nose, but nevertheless he knows he has lost the confidence of the people and resigns his office, effective immediately. Clint is certain the mayor was complicit, but Viki is happy to have helped bring about this outcome. Julia shows up at Max’s Place and tells Max she is there to pick up Al so that Gabrielle can spend the day with him. Max says Gabrielle is welcome to come see Al anytime she wants, but Julia admits Gabrielle sent her so she wouldn’t have to face Max. Max says he won’t let Julia take Al, and rejects her role as a go-between, saying he will go tell Gabrielle himself. Father Tony takes Gabrielle to a soup kitchen and tries to show Gabrielle there are other ways to serve the community and the church besides getting thee to a nunnery. Roger brings Viki a letter from the Committee of Concerned Citizens asking her to run for the newly vacant mayor’s office. Viki isn’t sure she’s qualified, but Roger thinks it’s a marvelous idea: she’s widely respected and she cares deeply about the community. Roger insists it wasn’t his idea (though he did second the motion), and Viki promises to give the matter very careful consideration. Max ambushes Gabrielle in her hotel room and demands she tell him why she’s avoiding him. He wants her to explain why she went from begging Max to be with her to refusing to even be in the same room with him. Max says he isn’t leaving until she tells him the truth. Gabrielle says the truth is she doesn’t love him anymore and isn’t certain she ever really did. She throws him out of her room and then lets out a sob.
