This was Coleman's final recording session for Decca's World Broadcasting System in January, 1944. Because the recordings were made on a 16" radio transcription disk played back at 33 1/3 rpm, the quality was quite good for the time. The piano player is uncredited, and besides failing miserably on two of the tracks, is one of Coleman's better accompanists. While Coleman was ill and not in his top form at the time of these recordings, and would pass one year later, there is a level of introspection that makes these recordings stand in a class of their own compared to his commercial recordings.
