Bible Discussions - Episode 28 - The Dark, Empty Place

Have you ever been in a place that was so dark you couldn't see your way out? Perhaps it was a physical place, but maybe it was an emotional or spiritual one. This is the dark, empty place. It is like the first two verses of the Bible, where the earth was dark, formless, and void. Only God can lead you out of those places, because he is the only one who can see in the dark. In the Old Testament, we examine the book of Lamentations, where Jeremiah found that Jerusalem had become the dark, empty place. All of his prophecies had come true, and the once bustling city was in ruins. Mothers had eaten their children to survive the siege, the temple had been destroyed, the prophets were silenced, and the Spirit of God had left the city. All Jeremiah could do was wait on the compassion of God to shorten the time of desolation. The book ends with a question: "Has God utterly rejected us?" In the New Testament, we discover that we are not utterly rejected. Some of Jeremiah's and Isaiah's prophecies were yet to be fulfilled. A light was coming into the world, a new covenant was headed for the hearts of men, and a prophet would speak again in Israel. Jesus teaches us that light triumphs over darkness. We must learn to reject the darkness and trust ourselves to the light. This is another episode in the series entitled, "Who Is Jesus Christ, and Why Do I Need Him?" Join father and son, Timothy and Caleb, as they explore the books of the Old Testament to discover the main attribute of God revealed in each. Then listen as they survey the New Testament to see how Jesus Christ exemplifies each attribute in his person.
