The singer Ray Collins hails from Belfast City. His first 'major' public singing engagements were on the picket-lines and rallies of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s and later to captive audiences as an inmate in Crumlin Road Gaol in Belfast. Ray is a former member of the Irish Transport and General Workers Union and was a Trade Union activist in Belfast and London. This song is a tribute to Seamus Costello former leader of Official Sinn Féin and the Official IRA and latterly of the Irish Republican Socialist Party (IRSP) and the Irish National Liberation Army (INLA). Costello was shot dead as he sat in his car on the 5th of October 1977 allegedly by a member of the Official IRA, Jim Flynn. This was as a result of a feud with his former comrades. Costello is the only leader of an Irish political party killed to date.
