During past few weeks I had a great time putting together this simple setup and jamming with the Skulpt SE and Volca FM synths that I haven’t used in a while! After rearranging many times the main setup, these two old friends were left out because of lack of space and mixer inputs. I also haven’t used them much lately, so it wasn’t hard for me to decide to not include them in the main setup. Yet, I was kinda curious about how can I put them side by side and jam. The Model:Samples is also a piece of gear that I believe I’ll stop using continuously, so it is a perfect candidate for side setups like this one. With it’s sample playback and sequencing capabilities, it just makes perfect sense. So I used it to play drums, some melodic samples and, of course, sequence the two before mentioned synths. To add some extra melody I added the JX-08 boutique. I ran the Skulpt and the Volca FM through the Zoia pedal, using independent fx chains for each one and then summed them into a stereo signal, all within Zoia. JX-08 with it’s own built in effects. Model:Samples with drums and some melodic samples went through my custom made stomp box based on the NTS-1. The custom stomp box resulted in a very handy tool for altering the main beat during transitions. I used a DJ style filter (LP/HP) and some reverb. Very pleased with the results and planning to try it with the TR-8s in the future. As you might noticed, I synced the Model:Samples to the JX-08. I used the JX-08 sequencer to play the extra melody because I obviously ran out of MIDI tracks on the Model:Samples. All audio is running into the Makers Hart 5 channel stereo mixer. An amazing little mixer BTW! I hope you enjoy this one! Please listen with headphones!
