CSX Transportation was formed through a merger between the Seaboard System and Chessie System railroads, which each came from their own lineages of well-known railroad predecessors. CSX's paint scheme started as a simple grey and blue, then became all grey, later with a yellow nose added. By the mid 1990s, A yellow, blue, and grey paint scheme (known as YN2 or Yellow Nose 2) had become the standard, but echoes of the older paint schemes lingered on.
